"Audit report" is an official inspection report prepared to examine whether the income and expenditure accounts and financial transactions of an institution, panchayat, office, or project have been conducted in accordance with the law.
This inspection is carried out by auditors or accredited audit departments.
Typically included in an audit report:
- Review of income-expenditure accounts
- Assessment of errors in accounts
- Legal violations or irregularities
- Deficiencies in financial investments
- Correction suggestions
- Evaluation of financial status
For example, in the audit report of a village panchayat:
- Has the project amount been spent correctly?
- Are the records accurate?
- Were there any unnecessary expenses?
- Is there a shortfall in tax collection?
